Why preparation makes the difference

Travelling with luggage by taxi is not just about waving down a car and piling everything in. In Cameroon, journeys can involve traffic jams, uneven roads and multiple stops. A little planning prevents wasted time, paying for unused space or an uncomfortable ride. Whether you are going on a short trip, moving part of your belongings or returning from travel, preparation starts before the taxi arrives.

Assess the real volume of your luggage

First step: count your items without being overly optimistic. A sports bag takes up less room than a hard-shell suitcase, and a poorly closed box can burst open on the way. Split your luggage into two categories: the main pieces, which will go in the boot or cabin, and the small bags you will keep with you (handbag, laptop, documents).

  • Estimate the number of pieces and their bulk.
  • Group small bags into one larger bag to reduce handling.
  • Provide a cover or bag for fragile items.
  • Avoid open bags: anything not closed can spill.

Choose the right type of vehicle

Not all taxis offer the same space. A standard sedan works for two or three passengers with light luggage. For large suitcases, boxes or a bigger group, it is better to aim for a vehicle with a large boot or an estate, van or MPV model. When booking or making contact, clearly state the number of passengers and the approximate volume of luggage. This allows the driver to assess whether their vehicle is suitable, avoiding unpleasant surprises on arrival.

Information to communicate

  • Number of passengers.
  • Number of large pieces (suitcases, boxes).
  • Any bulky items (pushchair, instrument, equipment).
  • Pick-up point and destination, with a precise landmark.

Prepare the loading

A well-organised load protects your belongings and avoids damaging the vehicle. Place heavy items at the bottom of the boot, lighter ones on top. Fragile bags travel inside, wedged between your legs or on your lap if space allows. Never block the driver's visibility: the rear window and mirrors must stay clear.

If you have several stops, keep the luggage you will need during the journey close to you. Conversely, what you only need at the final destination can stay at the bottom.

Anticipate the journey itself

A trip with luggage takes a little more time: loading, unloading and possible adjustments. Allow extra time, especially if you then need to take another form of transport or meet a schedule. Avoid peak hours when possible, and keep accepted payment methods within reach. If you are travelling with valuables, do not leave them in the boot unattended during stops.

On arrival

Before leaving the vehicle, count your pieces: suitcases, bags, boxes. A final glance at the back seats and the boot prevents leaving a bag behind. If you use a platform like VORIK to organise your trip, these good practices still apply: preparation is part of the journey.

In short: assess the volume, choose a suitable vehicle, communicate clearly and organise the loading. Your taxi journey with luggage will be simpler, faster and more relaxed.
